Human Resource Management

Many definitions exist for the term HRM. Boselie (2011) defines HRM as:

HRM involves management decisions related to policies and practices which together shape the employment relationship and are aimed at achieving individual, organisational and societal goals

Important here is that HRM does not only concerns the individual, but also the relation and network between individuals. A further description of Boselie describes HRM consisting out of three components:

  • Human; concerns around the factor of labour and the human making itself available to perform labour
  • Resource; refers to the importance of employees. Employees can be seen as the source of success for an organisation. They take along knowledge, competences and as such provide valuable human capital for organisations
  • Management; refers to the assumption that employees can be lead to realise goals.
